What is an IUD?
An IUD (Intrauterine Device) is a small,
T-shaped device placed in your uterus to prevent pregnancy. It’s over 99% effective and lasts for 3 to 10 years, depending on the type.

Hormonal IUDs
These release a small amount of the hormone progestin (Mirena, Kyleena) to prevent pregnancy by thickening cervical mucus, thinning the uterine lining, and sometimes stopping ovulation.
Copper IUDs
The copper IUD uses copper instead of hormones to prevent pregnancy. Copper is toxic to sperm, preventing fertilization.
Benefits of IUDs:
- Long-lasting & highly effective
- No daily maintenance
- Revesrible at any time
- Some types reduce heavy periods
The best IUD depends on your health, preferences, and lifestyle. A healthcare provider can help you weigh the pros and cons based on your individual needs. Learn More about IUDs
What is Nexplanon?
Nexplanon Birth Control Implant is a matchstick-sized implant placed just under the skin of your upper arm. It releases a steady dose of progestin and is over 99% effective at preventing pregnancy for up to 3 years.

How It Works:
Nexplanon releases a steady, low dose of the hormone etonogestrel (a type of progestin) into the body. It prevents pregnancy by:
- Thinning the uterine lining (making implantation unlikely)
- Stopping ovulation (no egg is released)
- Thickening cervical mucus (harder for sperm to reach the egg)
Key Facts:
- Over 99% effective at preventing pregnancy
- Reversible: You can have it removed anytime, and fertility usually returns quickly
- Inserted in a few minutes during an office visit
- No daily maintenance (unlike the pill)
Common Side Effects:
- Irregular bleeding or spotting (especially in the first 6–12 months)
- Lighter or no periods over time
- Headache, breast tenderness, or mood changes (less common)
Nexplanon is a great option if you want long-term, low-maintenance birth control and prefer to avoid daily pills or devices inside the uterus (like an IUD). Learn more about Nexplanon

Depo Injection
A Convenient and Long-Acting Birth Control Option
The Depo injection, also known as Depo-Provera, is a hormonal contraceptive method that is administered as an injection every 12 weeks. It contains progestin, which works to prevent pregnancy by stopping ovulation and thickening cervical mucus to block sperm.
Is Depo Right for You?
Our healthcare team is here to help you understand your options. During your consultation, we’ll discuss your health, lifestyle, and reproductive goals to determine if the Depo injection is the best fit for you.
Please Note:
IUDs, Nexplanon, and Depo shots are effective forms of birth control, but they do not protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Only condoms can help reduce the risk of STIs. For full protection, consider using condoms along with your chosen contraceptive method.

FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is the insertion painful?
Most women report mild discomfort, similar to cramping. The procedure is quick and we can offer pain relief options.
Q: Can I get pregnant after removal?
Yes! Fertility typically returns quickly after either IUD or Nexplanon is removed.
Q: Will I still get my period?
It depends on the method. Hormonal IUDs and Nexplanon may lighten or stop periods; copper IUDs do not contain hormones.
